Preparing Fruits and Nuts
1. When using pomegranate, first remove the arils. I accomplish this by extracting the arils from half of a pomegranate and putting them in a dish of water. This will lessen the likelihood that the pomegranate juice may mark your clothing or the kitchen counter. Drain all the water, then take out the arils and set them aside.
2. Chop the nuts of your choice, such as 10 to 12 almonds, 10 to 12 cashews, and 12 to 15 pistachios. (If you want the nuts to have a richer flavor, feel free to briefly roast them before chopping.)
3. Rinse the fruits (two mangoes, one tiny papaya, ten to twelve strawberries, three to four figs, and two to three chikoo) thoroughly (a.k.a. sapota or sapodilla). Inedible peels, seeds, and stems should all be removed and discarded. Cut all fruit into pieces of comparable size. Once you've chopped all the other fruits, peel and chop the two bananas.
4. Place the fruit pieces in a mixing dish.
5. Include the pomegranate seeds.
6. Next, add the nuts, such as cashews, pistachios, almonds, or walnuts, in slices or chops.
7. If using, add the honey. (Alternatively, you might choose to use vegan sweeteners like maple syrup, pomegranate molasses, date syrup, palm sugar, or coconut sugar.)
8. As an alternative, you can serve the fruit salad with a sprinkle of honey or maple syrup. You might also completely omit the sweetener from the recipe.
9. We don't like fruit salads with any acidic citrus flavors. If you'd like, feel free to add a little orange or lemon juice.
